Many years ago, I was a civil engineer in Canada who dreamed of moving to Britain. Finally, in 2011 my dream came true and I moved to the UK with my husband. I have always loved England, but I also miss Canada. One of the things I miss the most is certain foods. When I left engineering to start a family near Liverpool on the beautiful Wirral peninsula, I decided it was time to share my native recipes with the British.
I had baked for most of my life as a hobby and had refined my favourite childhood dishes to work well with British ingredients (except maple syrup, which obviously has to be Canadian!) With handcrafted gourmet versions of Nanaimo Bars, Peanut Butter Truffles and Maple Sandwich Cookies ready to go, I started setlling at farmers markets. But I knew that I needed to make these things available to homesick Canadians like me all across the UK. And thus this online store was born.
The Canadian Cottage was launched at the beginning of 2016, however the seed of this adventure has been growing ever since we arrived in the UK.
